My Black Belt Speech

I’m going to tell you about my time before and during karate. Two years ago, my whole life changed in many ways. Bullies at school were trying to hurt and making fun of me everyday. When they surrounded me in the schoolyard and even the teachers were there and they weren’t paying attention, my mom and dad decided I needed to defend myself. I didn’t think that I could do it but when I met Sensei and everyone else at the school everyone was so nice. I thought I would try. Three weeks after I began Tiger Schulman’s Karate, my father passed away; my cousin took me to the store that night and I saw sensei there and I told him what happened. He told me to not stop karate to keep coming and I listened. It helped me a lot of times to not feel so sad. As I kept training when some of the boys hit me I started to hit them back. They kept on hitting me but they got hit back. I was really defending myself and it felt good. I wasn’t afraid anymore.

I want to thank Sensei Anthony, you are the coolest teacher I ever had you helped me get through these first months when my dad first died because I felt like you used to say things like my dad would say, to make me not afraid. Thank you too Deshi Malloy for making me have fun in class and laugh, and I want to thank Deshi Barrett for all your help getting me ready for my black belt test and for pushing me to try harder. Thanks Everyone!

When Sensei gave me my high brown belt, I was happy and a little bit sad because that was the last belt that Sensei would give me. I’m really going to miss that. I’m so excited for going to my black belt test. I did a lot of private lessons, I also practiced at home, I didn’t like working on my pushups but I know that if I don’t do my pushups and the rest of the stuff I have to do for my black belt test, I will fail. I’m not that scared at going to the black belt test. I might be a little nervous but all that time I will be smiling, have confidence in myself and get that black belt test done! This is the coolest thing I’ve ever done. My karate school is like a second family to me. I made so many friends, met really cool people and nice Sensei’s. Thank you so much! Tiger Schulmanns Karate Rocks!!!
